Project Engineer - Secondary Upgrading  

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager for Secondary Upgrading, the Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating engineering efforts necessary to effectively meet project objectives. Working with functional team members such as Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Construction, the project engineer will also be responsible for coordinating procurement and contract related activities and will support construction when the project progresses to the field. The Project Engineer will typically be accountable for a specific facility or scopes of work but may also be providing leadership and coordination on a program within the project. The Project Engineer’s role does not end at completion of engineering but transitions to a role of supporting the construction phase of the project.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Delivers projects that support Suncor’s Journey to Zero and Process Safety Management objectives through safety in design and project execution

· Ensures adherence to the principles of Suncor Project Implementation Manual (SPIM)

·  Provide input into the design stages of the project by attending constructability reviews, model reviews and HAZOPS reviews as assigned and by reviewing detailed plans with a view to sequencing of the work properly, resource loading etc.

· Interface directly with the engineering contractors to ensure that all designs meet the needs of project stakeholders (operations, maintenance and the construction group)

· With support of engineering contractors and project functional team members, provides oversight on various contracts and purchase orders

· Develop execution plans and scopes of work for various contracts related to assigned responsibilities

· Review Engineering Work Packages (EWP's) for completeness and constructability prior to being issued for construction. If applicable, also attend bid review and evaluation meetings and conduct site tours required in conjunction with the bid process.

· Administer Request for Information (RFI's) in a timely manner by coordinating the satisfactory resolution of any design or construction deficiencies as identified from time to time during the construction and commissioning phase of projects assigned

· Ensure all necessary QA/QC inspections of field installations are performed to ensure construction compliance to applicable codes and standards including any Suncor specific practices or identified requirements

· Ensure completion of all necessary pre-commissioning activities to achieve compliance with project commissioning and acceptance procedures

· Monitor and reports on project cost, scope, and schedule

· Ensures compliance with EH&S policies/practices

· Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, Suncor standards practices and procedures

· Implement value improving practices and support continuous process improvement
 

REQUIRIED QUALIFICATIONS

·  Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Instrumentation and Controls, Chemical, Oil and Gas disciplines or relevant technical diploma with 8+ years experience (or possesses an appropriate combination of education and experience)

· Must be eligible to become a member of APEGGA

· EPC experience considered and asset

· Hydro-treating experience is considered a strong asset

· Previous Oil Sands, Upgrading, or Utilities Experience considered an asset

· Highly motivated self starter comfortable working with various levels and departments within the organization

· Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision making skills
